Recent rains and flooding of the Nueces River brought some good news — and plenty of water — to Lake Corpus Christi this week. The lake, which has suffered from drought conditions the past several years, is now nearing capacity, thanks to the above normal October rainfall.

As a reservoir, Lake Corpus Christi levels depend on usage and weather patterns. On Friday, Oct. 18, the lake was at 25.40 percent capacity. That number rose to 32.40 percent by Monday, Oct. 21 and is at 43 percent today, Oct. 24. It is expected to be at 95 percent capacity by the end of the weekend.

That's good news for the Winter Texans who call Lake Corpus Christi State Park home. The park's busiest seasons are summer and winter weekends. Long-term visitors are welcome to the park's campgrounds where fishing, birdwatching and hiking are popular winter sports.
