NATIONAL PARKS ARE FREE FOR VETERANS DAY WEEKEND — Take the family to a National Park for FREE this weekend to honor our nation's military veterans and current members of the U.S. Armed Forces. All national parks, including the Padre Island National Seashore, will cease collecting entry fees through Monday, Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day. (Fees for the Bird Island Basin boat ramp and/or the park campgrounds are still in affect.)
All active-duty military and their dependents are eligible for free annual passes at all National Parks. That's a free year-long pass to the almost 400 National Park Service sites! The participating Texas parks, along with Padre Island National Seashore, are Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site and Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

Other honors to mention
• Veterans showing a military ID can ride Corpus Christi city buses for free on Monday, Nov. 11.
• A trip to a free screening in Houston of the documentary Honor Flight: One Last Mission, is being offered to 45 veterans. The free day-long event at the park will include musical entertainment and ceremonies.
The Corpus Christi Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will provide a ride to Minute Maid Park for the Monday, Nov. 11 event. Seating will be on a first-come, first served basis. The bus leaves the Greenwood WalMart at 6 a.m. and will return at 11:30 p.m. Monday.
The Honor Flight project works to take veterans in their 80s and 90s to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
