AMERICAN AIRLINES DEBUTS NEWEST MODEL AT CC AIRPORT — The details sound first class, but the newest model in small jets now offers top amenities to main cabin customers. The Airbus A319 by American Airlines took off on its first flight at the Corpus Christi Airport this week, featuring more leg room, leather seats, gate-to-gate in-seat entertainment and wireless internet access — all in the main cabin. Power outlets and USB ports are also available in every seat.
“The A319 provides a new standard of service to markets where only the smallest jets have operated,” said a spokesman for American Airlines.
With a standard 124-seat configuration and a range of up to 3,740 nautical miles, Airbus also offers an option with a seating capacity of up to 156 passengers. It is the widest single-aisle fuselage on the market, setting the standard for passenger cabin comfort and adaptability.
“This allows for top-of-the-range comfort with generous seat width, or an extra-wide aisle for fast turnarounds,” AA said.
The fresh new look and upgrades come with a significant increase in overhead stowage, a noticeable reduction in noise and options for ambience lighting. In addition, on-board cockpit technology increases pilots’ situational awareness during landing, reduces exposure to runway excursion risk and — if necessary — provides active protection.
The A319 also gets better gas mileage — up to 15 percent savings! — and offers double-digit reductions in CO2 and NOx emissions.
American Airlines calls it the airplane of the future, flying into airports today. The Corpus Christi International Airport currently flies two outbound A319s a day.
