WHERE TO RECYCLE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE — Recycle your holiday trees January 4 and 11 at select Corpus Christi Walmart locations and get a free live tree to plant in your yard.
The City of Corpus Christi, which runs the "Christmas TreeCycling" program, will turn discarded evergreens into a fragrant mulch that will be re-gifted to city residents for free in mid-February. Last year 4,316 trees were turned into garden mulch.
You can exchange your old, dry tree for a free afghan pine or lace bark elm sampling while supplies last. A part of the city's TreeCycling program, more than 2,000 saplings were given to tree recyclers last year.
Corpus residents also have the option of leaving their trees on the curb during regular brush pick-up days, or dropping it off at at the Elliott Collection Center, 7001 Ayers Street.
Residents are reminded to remove all Christmas ornaments, tinsel, fake snow and tree stands from the trees before drop-off.
