Corpus Christ runners are going to race through Valentine's Day week — some for fun, some to get away from the zombies!
The fun gets started Feb. 8 at 8 a.m. with a Valentine's Day 2-mile Fun Run at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's Moody Field House. At 9. a.m. St. Gertrude's Angel 5K or 1M Walk/Run begins at Dick Kleberg Park barbecue pavilion. And than at 10 a.m. Cupids Chase 5K begins at Heritage Park.
If you haven't had enough already (or overslept and missed the morning runs), you can join the Zombi Gras 5K and 1Mile ZombieWalk at North Beach. This run features zombies going a little faster than you may be accustomed to.
The Valentine's Day Fun Run is hosted by Texas A&M-CC's cross country and track and field teams. They had the biggest turnout ever last year with 350 runners. Registration begins at 7 a.m. for the 8 a.m. run.
The St. Gertrude's Angel 5K and 1-Mile Walk/Run benefits St. Gertrude's school. The money goes directly to offsetting operating expenses at the school, which offers an academically challenging, values-based education to children of all faiths and financial means. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
Cupid's Chase is a national 5K run that takes place in 24 cities throughout eight states, at the same time. Proceeds benefit Community Options, a national nonprofit organization that provides housing and employment support for people with disabilities.
Zombi Gras features awards for the top five winners, as well as a dress-up costume contest, music and other surprises. Registration is Friday, Feb. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. This year, the event, which benefits Corpus Christi Metro Ministries, will welcome special Zombie author Joe McKinney. Join him for a signing party at Fajitaville during the run/walk.
