If you love running for a cause, Corpus Christi offers plenty of opportunities over the next few weeks.

The Yorkdown Academy 5K/10K Run and Pancake Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15.  Proceeds benefit the Yorktown Christian Academy. Meet up at the school at 5025A Yorktown Blvd. for opening ceremonies and an 8 a.m. 10K run start. Those left behind begin eating pancakes at 8:45 a.m. You need to have signed up for this one by now, as no race-day registration is available. Call 361-2955 for more information.

Also on Saturday, the Rise and Shine 5K Run and Walk at Whataburger Field gets under way at 8 a.m.. This run benefits the Rise School of Corpus Christi. Packet pickup is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 at Fleet Feet Sports, 514 Everhart.

Fast forward to Friday, Feb. 21 for the Ties and Tennis Shoes Memorial Fun Run 5K at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Yes, this evening run calls for fancy dress wear. Special prizes will be given for ugliest tie and fanciest runner.Winners usually come decked out in prom dresses and tuxes.

A pet friendly event, Ties and Tennis Shoes begins at 5 p.m. on campus with a festival that includes activities, health information, live music and food. Go to the Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, Avenue C, between the Student Recreation Center and College of Pharmacy. Proceeds benefit an endowed scholarship in Dr. James Robertson Jr.'s memory. The race begins at 6:30 p.m.  And though the festival closes at 9:30 p.m., the party goes on at the Country Luau on University.

Wake up early on Saturday, Feb. 22 when you can choose between two different runs.

The 10th Annual Beach Dash with 10 and 5K runs,  2-mile walk and Kids Dash, begins at 8 a.m. at  Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas. Pick up your packet on Friday, Feb. 21 between 3 and 8 p.m. at H.G. Olsen Elementary School, 100 Station Street. Race day registration available. Call 361-749-6462 for more. This beach-based run benefits the Port Aransas Kiwanis.

Head to Whataburger Field at 734 E. Port in Corpus Christi for the Color Me Rad 5K. Runners start out with a pristine white shirts and are blasted with color bombs throughout the race for a bright rainbow ending. Racers go out in three waves at 9, 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
