Two locally-owned steakhouses changed their names recently to make way for a national chain laying claim to the Longhorn name.
The Original Longhorn Steakhouse at 4535 South Padre Island Drive is now Texas Flame Steakhouse. "New Name, Same Flame," is the new slogan says owners Angelo Papakostas and Louis Sissamis. The restaurant also has a new interior to help launch it's new brand.
Longhorn Steak and Ale at 4307 Avalon St. rebranded itself as Ol' Steakhouse Co. They, too are serving the same food with the same staff, just a different moniker.
The changes were brought about when the Florida-based LongHorn Steakhouse opened in La Palmera Mall. After a year's struggle with Darden Restaurants, Inc., which owns the steakhouse chain as well as Olive Garden, Red Lobster and other properties, the three reached a settlement.
More steak for everyone!
