Despite the current chilly weather, the Texas State Aquarium is all set for summer with the opening of the HEB Splash Park and Owen's Paleo Park. The two outdoor play areas opened on Saturday, March 1 for the season, with special daily hours for Spring Break.
HEB Splash Park is a zero-depth wetscape water play area with state-of-the-art water spray jets, interactive water features, water canons and more. At Owen's Paleo Park, guests can unearth fossilized remains of Giant ground sloths and Saber-toothed tigers from 13,000 years ago.
All you need is sunscreen, a towel, water shoes (you can go barefoot, but no street shoes are allowed on the splash pad) and appropriate swimwear. Changing rooms are available as well as rented lockers. No extra fee is required. The price of playing in the outdoor areas is the price of admission to the Aquarium.
During Spring Break, the area will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.. From March 16 to May 24, the areas will be open on weekends only from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. begin again on May 25 and continue through Labor Day.
