Hibbett Sports will open a new store in the Five Points Shopping Center in Calallen this fall. The store will join four other area Hibbets in Portland, Aransas Pass, Kingsville and Alice. A Port Lavaca location opened in January.

Texas has been the focus of Hibbett's expansion plans for several years now. The company has 800 stores nationwide, 90 in Texas. The Calallen location will be its 91st Texas location.

Hibbett Sports brings the buying power of a national brand to the neighborhood store, said Jeff Rosenthal, President and CEO of Hibbett Sports Goods, Inc., which is headquartered in Birmingham, Ala.

“We research the markets we enter to learn what the customers of that area want from a sporting goods store,” said Rosenthal in a press release.  “We constantly update our merchandise assortment to offer the latest in product technology, performance and fashion so that we can meet the diverse needs of our customer’s active lifestyles.”

The story sells baseball equipment year-round and stocks its football gear annually in June. It focuses on team sports equipment including soccer and fitness.

Hibbetts claims to be the fastest growing sporting goods chain in the U.S. because of its attention to local sporting interests, Rosenthal said.
