Chicas Rock takes the stage on the 400 block of Peoples Street in downtown Corpus Christi Friday, June 6, kicking off this month's First Weekend events. Sponsored by the Downtown Management District, First Weekend events, which happen on the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of a month, include the ArtWalk on Friday, MusicWalk on Saturday and Harbor BridgeWalk on Sunday.
ArtWalk takes over LaRetama Park from 5:30 to 9 p.m. It will include free museum admissions, music, vendors and 23 blocks of galleries and businesses that stay open late for the Friday night festivities.
The tunnel will be open as well, hosting two art exhibits, one from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The second section display, called the Time Tunnel, features historic photographs of downtown Corpus Christi. Both displays will be up for viewing over the next several months.
On Saturday, MusicWalk gets under way at 6 p.m., lasting until 9 p.m., also in La Retama Park.
Sunday, walk it all off at the Harbor BridgeWalk beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Heritage Park. The route travels along Resaca to Broadway then on to the Power St., US181 access ramp. Once over the bridge Northwards, walkers cross under the bridge on the North side and then back over the bridge Southwards. The final stages are down the off ramp to Belden St, left onto Broadway, right to Resaca and back to Heritage Park.
