Join the oyster shucking contest at the Fulton Oysterfest.
Folks in Fulton set aside the first weekend in March for the annual Fulton Oysterfest. The 36th event will get under way in 2015 on Thursday, March 5, and won't end until the last bit of seafood is gone on Sunday, March 8 — a lot of seafood eating as you spring forward for daylight savings time that Sunday morning.
Plenty of Oysterfest events are planned for the waterfront in Fulton, including a raw oyster-eating contest with a $200 first prize. First place in the oyster-shucking contest wins $700! You'll also find carnival rides, games, live music, plenty of food, and local vender booths galore.
VFD FUNDRAISER
Oysterfest serves as the primary fundraiser for the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department. Each year, proceeds from the festival are used to purchase lifesaving equipment and gear for the fire department. This year, profits will be used to update equipment and protective gear as well as provide additional funding for the newly proposed Fulton Fire Station.
Admission to the festival is only $1 on Thursday. From Friday through Sunday, gate admission is $3 for those 12 years and up. For more information or to register as a vendor for the festival, visit the Fulton website.
