Although not yet a certainty, Brewster Street Icehouse may soon open a Southside location, according to developer Bill Durrill. The new single story location planned for the corner of Holly and Staples streets would house a 18,455-square-foot restaurant and bar and a huge outdoor deck measuring 7,695 square feet.
Intended to be a family-friendly facility, a large play area on the west side of the property is also planned. Local residents concerned with possible loud music from the facility can rest easy. The new Icehouse has been designed to make a small acoustic footprint on the surrounding area.
The City Council will need to approve a few zoning changes, and one of the buildings on site is slated for demolition before the new facility can move forward.
Since opening in 2006, Brewster Street has built a reputation as a popular venue for live music. 'Brewsters’, as it is known locally, is located downtown near Whataburger Field. An additional location on Corpus Christi’s Southside would allow the Icehouse to tap into a different market of people that might not want to make a trip downtown.
