For a first-hand experience of what life on the King Ranch was like during the hey day of the cowboy, saddle up for the Kingsville Ranch Hand Festival Nov. 21-23.
Friday's action centers on downtown Kingsville with the kick-off of La Posada de Kingsville. Events include the lighting of the Christmas tree at the 1904 Train DepotvMuseum at 6 p.m., a barbecue cook-off and rodeo.
Early risers enjoy one of the highlights of the weekend, the 24th Annual Ranch Hand Breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at the King Ranch. Eggs, biscuits, gravy and more are cooked over an open campfire. The cost is only $6, with proceeds going to fund La Posada de Kingsville. Visitors can park downtown and take a shuttle to the ranch. Early morning entertainment includes team-roping demonstrations, re-enactors, live music, poetry and storytelling.
Back in Kingsville, the fun continues with live music, arts and craft vendors and wine tastings. Cultural presentations include the Lipan Apache story tellers, mariachi music and the Youth Ballet Folklorico.
For some family fun going the chalk art contest, star party, dutch oven cook off, steam roller printmaking and art roundup. Don't forget to visit the Christmas Tree Forest either.
Wrap it all up on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Cowboy Church.
