Two movie complexes that would have been in competition with each other for customers in Corpus Christi decided to work together instead. Movies and More developer Jeff Dinger announced he will partner with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to located its restaurant/movie venue on the corner of South Staples Street and Yorktown Blvd.
Originally planned as a movie theater with a bowling alley, arcade and laser tag, Movies and More drew controversy from neighbors concerned about traffic and drinking, since the facility would be serving beer. Despite protests, Corpus Christi city council unanimously approved the rezoning necessary in May to allow building to begin.
BACH Holdings plans to begin building Alamo Drafthouse sometime in the spring. The 32,000-square-foot facility should be open by the end of 2015. Headquartered in its birth city of Austin, the Alamo Drafthouse has 26 theaters nationwide. Sixteen are in Texas.
The movie complex sells beer and entrees which are served to patrons as they watch first-run movies. Tables are situated between the seats.
