Save $80 and a lot of water with the city’s new Catch a Drop! rain barrel program. The city of Corpus Christi is selling 50-gallon rain barrels in March for a special price of $49.50. The barrels normally cost $129.
Orders must be placed by March 22 at 11 p.m. for pickup on Saturday March 28 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pick up your Ivy rain barrel at the Water Utilities Building, 2726 Holly Road.
Orders can be placed online at http://www.rainbarrelprogram.org/corpuschristi. You will need your utility account number to make the final purchase. City utility customers are limited to two barrels.
The classic black barrels are made from 100 percent recycled materials and manufactured in the U.S., say city officials.
“The use of rain barrels will provide residents an important tool they need to conserve water, prevent water pollution and reduce sedimentation in our lakes, rivers and streams,” said project manager Brent Clayton. He also pointed out that rain water is better for watering plants than chemically treated drinking water.
The barrel comes with everything you need to assemble, collect and use rain water. Barrels can be daisy chained at no added cost as all components, including a 6-foot-long overflow hose, come with the barrel.
