Therapy First has added Pilates to its physical therapy treatments and has expanded its already extensive geriatric services, announced owner Cathy Pierce. Therapists at Therapy First also recently concluded advanced training in vestibular disorders, she continued. Adding new physical therapists and installing the new, up-to-date Pilates equipment has led to extended hours as well.
“We are thrilled and excited being able to provide quality care to a larger group of people now in the Corpus Christi area,” Pierce said.
New members of the team include Starrla Rodriguez, a certified Pilates instructor working with patients in rehabilitation; Mylin Anandula, an experienced physical therapy assistant who works with patients in geriatrics; and David McCool, a part-time physical therapist who also has years of experience working with geriatric patients.
The new Reformer machine added Pilates to the many offerings at Therapy First. Pilates is a low-impact exercise that works all the major muscle groups, including strengthening the body’s core.
“The physical therapists work to correct and balance a variety of patient ailments,” Pierce said. “Whether they are teenagers or elderly, we want to keep them steady and want to see them improve.”
Along with all of the new improvements, Therapy First, which is located in the Corpus Christi Athletic Club at 2101 Airline Road, continues to provide its aquatic therapy, gym exercises and hands-on techniques to its patients.
“I want business to continue improving,” added Pierce, who takes her dedication to her field of work to numerous career days in the community. She is also chair of the advisory committee for the Del Mar College Physical Therapy Assistant program. As a clinical instructor, she hosts internships at her own practice, providing students with hands-on knowledge and experience. Pierce has 39 years’ experience in physical therapy.
“Our goal at Therapy First is to provide the highest quality of care to our patients,” she said.
