Celebrate the nation’s 239th birthday this weekend in Corpus Christi!
With the Fourth of July on Saturday this year, city offices will be closed for the holiday on Friday, July 3, making for a fun-filled three-day weekend for much of Corpus Christi. City hall, libraries and municipal court will be closed along with animal services, senior centers, recreation centers, gymnasiums and the latchkey program.
Garbage, recycling and heavy brush collection will continue on schedule, but recycling drop-off sites will be closed on Saturday, July 4, reopening on Sunday, July 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Locations include the H-E-
B at Leopard Street, the H-E-B at Alamada and Glazebrook streets, the Fellowship of Oso Creek Church at 7401 Yorktown Blvd.
The J.C. Elliott Transfer Station’s Citizen Collection Center will be closed on Saturday, reopening on Monday, July 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Although closed on Friday, animal care services will reopen 1-6 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, for adoptions.
The city marina remains open as does the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, which is hosting a Fourth of July event. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. the museum will have live performances by American historical figures, a science show, kid-friendly activities, indoor and outdoor playgrounds and live music. For extra admission fees, you can stay and party on the pavilion with food trucks, live music and a great view of the Mayor's Big Bang fireworks at dark.
The Lozano Gold Center and Oso golf courses will remain open during regular hours.
All city pools will be open both Saturday and Sunday, but hours vary by pool:
• Collier Pool, 3801 Harris Drive, Tuesday-Sunday, 3-6 p.m., closed Monday;
• The Natatorium, 3202 Cabanas Parkway, Wednesday-Sunday,12-3 p.m., Closed Monday and Tuesday;
• Greenwood Pool, 4305 Greenwood Drive, Thursday-Monday, 12-6 p.m. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday;
• H-E-B Pool, 1520 Shely Street, Thursday-Sunday, 12-3 p.m., closed Monday-Wednesday;
• Oso Pool, 1109 Bernice Drive, Thursday-Sunday, 3:30-6:30 p.m. , closed Monday-Wednesday;
• West Guth Pool, 9705 Up River Road, Thursday-Sunday, 3:30-6:30 p.m., closed Monday-Wednesday.
OTHER CLOSINGS
All federal government offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, except for the U.S. Postal Services. Post Offices will be closed on Saturday, July 4.
Banks will remain open on Friday, July 3, closing on Saturday, July 4.
