Summer’s end brings the excitement of a new school year, along with one fun perk: the Texas Sales Tax Holiday, held August 7-9. Local shopping district La Palmera and some of its retailers will be open extended hours to give families the chance to stock up on tax-free items such as basic school supplies, backpacks, clothing, shoes and some accessories. Individual items priced under $100 in these categories are generally exempt from sales tax — which could add up to big savings for families with more than one child going back to school.
La Palmera expects a rush of traffic during the three-day event, and encourages visitors to take advantage of valet parking available near the mall’s main entrance. Complimentary covered parking is also available on the north side of the building to ease the heat. Concierge services are available in center court to assist families who need a little extra help to finish their back-to-school shopping.
Merchants such as Dillard’s, The Children’s Place, Bealls, JCPenney and Macy’s have stocked up on school uniforms, offering parents a one-stop shop for school staples. Even some retailers whose merchandise does not qualify for tax-exempt status will host special deals.
