Buy a gold leaf or branch and support pediatric cancer research during the month-long fundraising campaign for the Ready.Set. Gold. campaign. Donations can be made online at readysetgold.gives.

In September, the world goes gold in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. La Palmera joins the Corpus Christi-based Ready or Not Foundation in the "Ready. Set. Gold" campaign to raise awareness and fund pediatric cancer research. Local donations carry global impact thanks to a matching grant that doubles every dollar. All funds raised go directly toward research instrumental in defeating the number one cause of non-accidental childhood morbidity.
All month, La Palmera shoppers will see golden touches throughout the property, including decorated palm trees lining S. Padre Island Drive. A special 10-foot-tall tree in Center Court offers guests the chance to dedicate their own golden leaf with a donation.
Several merchants will join the effort by presenting gold-accented store windows. Visitors can get involved by using the #ReadySetGold hashtag on Instagram to spread the word. Two weekly hash tagged photos will win a $35 La Palmera gift card, and one grand prize winner will win a $300 La Palmera gift card at the end of the campaign.
Donations can be made at www.readysetgold.gives, a special website that showcases the stories of children affected by pediatric cancer. All donations go directly to Texas Children’s Cancer Center in Houston, the largest pediatric cancer center in the U.S. Texas Children’s research is shared with other leading cancer hospitals around the world to find a cure for the 15,000 children affected by cancer annually.
“The primary goal of Ready. Set. Gold. is to raise awareness for pediatric cancer by finding visual ways to make it top of mind, particularly during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September,” said Fred Walters, general manager of La Palmera and The Shops at La Palmera.  “Just as the color pink has become synonymous with breast cancer, gold is the color associated with childhood cancer, hence the campaign name of Ready. Set. Gold. With more than 650,000 visitors each month at La Palmera, we reach a wide audience of local residents and tourists, which is a great way to raise awareness and spread the word.”
Other events include a special Tide Turners Kids Club event on Tuesday, September 1 from 10 a.m. to Noon in Center Court, with activities supporting children affected by pediatric cancer. Children’s activities will be hosted during the last three weekends of September.
The campaign is capped off by the Ready. Set. Gold Fashion Show on Sunday, September 27 from 2 to 3 p.m., where merchants and stylists from La Palmera showcase their latest styles and brightest talents in an effort to help fight pediatric cancer.
