The Texas State Aquarium will be open throughout Thanksgiving weekend, including Thanksgiving Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A rare closing of aquarium doors will last for a week after the holiday, however, as the facility undergoes some needed improvements.
The aquarium will be closed to the public Monday, Nov. 30 to Friday, Dec. 4 for the work. The aquarium will reopen for regular hours 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Construction projects prompting the closure include work on floors, landscaping, parking and infrastructure, all which officials want done before the Christmas holiday season.
Other items of note at the Aquarium in upcoming weeks include:
• The aquarium’s main entrance temporarily moved to the Wild Flight entrance due to continuing construction on the Caribbean Exhibit.
• The new interactive Saving Sharks exhibit has opened, featuring a live shark-touch pool, a life-size giant white shark replica, full size diving cage, shark tracker and more.
• Scuba Santa takes over the feeding of the wildlife in the Flower Gardens exhibit Dec. 12-24. Feedings are usually at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., but check with the information desk when you arrive.
