A permit to build a new rehabilitation hospital at 345 S. Water Street was filed with the Corpus Christi development office Feb. 18. The 59,242-sq.-ft. building is expected to cost $11.2 million.
Managed by Post Acute Medical, the Rehabilitation Hospital of Corpus Christi is expected to break ground sometime around the end of March. The property had been slated for The Kinney, a boutique hotel.
Post Acute Medical will be moving its operation at the corner of Cimarron and Saratoga boulevards, as well as its long-term acute care services from Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline, to the new facility, which should be completed within a year after construction begins.
Owned by Medistar Corp. of Houston, the hospital is one of seven the company currently has planned in El Paso, Castroville, Boerne, San Antonio and elsewhere. Medistar Corporation is a leading medical real estate development company.
The Corpus Christi facility will include 40 private inpatient rooms; inpatient physical, speech occupational and aquatic therapies; emergency treatment; respiratory therapy; laboratory; pharmacy; and a dietary department.
The company also builds medical office buildings, senior care facilities, acute and post-acute care hospitals and skilled nursing home centers.
PERMITS ISSUE
Two permits were issued by the city in other development business during during the week of Feb. 15-19.
Venamex Insurance Company will be constructing a shell building at 6122 Kostoryz Rd. The 11,940-sq.-ft. building is expected to cost $120,000.
Physicians Premier, a private emergency room, is converting a building at 11158 Leopard St. into professional offices. The 8,645 sq. ft. will cost around $210,000, according to paperwork filed with the city.
