A public meeting to discuss North Beach improvement projects has been set for Wednesday, April 13 at the Radisson Hotel, Antigua Room, 3200 E. Surfside Blvd. The meeting begins with an open house at 5:30 p.m. with discussion beginning at 6 p.m.
The project includes landscaping enhancements, roadway surface and pedestrian improvements for Surfside Blvd., Breakwater Ave., Pearl Ave., N. Shoreline Blvd., Bridgeport Ave., Coastal Ave., and the medians along the Highway 181 entrances to North Bach.
Another project aimed at pedestrian improvements includes work on the breakwater sidewalk, on-street parking and Breakpoint Plaza.
The North Beach Community Association wants those improvements to include a increased policing, more lighting and a TKTKT. Several members of the community presented their proposals to the city council on Tuesday, the day before the hearing Wednesday, April 13.
A list of recently approved priorities for the North Beach area include:
• Fix drainage and street flooding;
• Prepare for new bridge by rebuilding Beach Ave with new pavement, bike lanes, wide sidewalks, signage to create gateway from the bridge to the beach;
• Prevent flooding in beach parking lots or close them off and improve street parking, build boardwalks to create dry path to Beachwalk;
• Install signage about North Beach’s important history.
