The restrooms are far away and often locked. The landscaping is spotty, the benches are limited and the lighting is poor.
Bayfront Park along the downtown seawall in Corpus Christi needs help, and voters approved a bond issue in 2008 to do just that. The $13 million approved for a Bayfront Park upgrade will finally be spent, starting sometime in the next two months, the city council recently voted.
Two sets of bathrooms will be added near Park Street and Cooper’s Alley along with 10 food truck connections. The entire park will be landscaped, and more benches, shade structures and lighting will be added. Also in the plans, a stage might be built in the footprint of the old coliseum.
Construction is expected to begin in July and be complete by summer 2017.
The 2008 bond issue also includes money for upgrades to Sherril and McCaughan parks and in the area of the Shoreline Boulevard realignment.
