Starbucks will soon be opening its sixth coffee shop in Corpus Christi, this one on the Southside at 4022 Saratoga Blvd. The world’s largest coffee chain filed for a building permit to erect a 2,015 square foot shell expected to cost around $600,000.
This newest location will join the 23,043 other Starbucks shops that have opened around the world since the company first began roasting and brewing beans in 1971. Named for the first mate on the ship Peqoud in Herman Melville's novel "Moby Dick," the company’s initial aim was to bring the Italian coffeehouse experience to the U.S.
Other Starbucks’ locations in Corpus Christi are: 3738 S. Staples, 5601 South Padre Island Drive, 5630 Saratoga Blvd., 6300 Ocean Drive, 1304 Wildcat Drive, 3738 Staples Street.
“Our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit — one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time,” reads a statement on the company’s website. “We make sure everything we do is through the lens of humanity – from our commitment to the highest quality coffee in the world, to the way we engage with our customers and communities to do business responsibly.”
