City manager Ron Olson turned in his resignation to the city council just before noon Tuesday after five years service. In his letter, which was emailed to individual council members at 11:27 a.m. May 17, Olsono said he had been considering the move, but made the decision earlier that morning because of the city's water problems.
“Even though the water boil is a catalyst event, this is something I have been thinking about for a long time and I feel like now is the right time,” Olson said in the email. “Ultimately I am responsible for the organization and with that I’m holding myself accountable for the recent water boil.”
He added that after his five years he felt he was leaving the city in better shape than when he arrived, “despite some ongoing infrastructure problems that have been around for many years.”
His last day will be upon competition of any accrued leave time. He came to the city from Des Moines, Iowa, where he was County Administrator for Polk County.
He almost left his Corpus Christi position last summer when he was named one of six candidates under consideration for city manager of Henderson, Nevada. A Utah native, he said at the time he wanted to be closer to his family, including his daughter who lives just over the Utah/Nevada border.
He ultimately removed his name from the list.
As of Tuesday afternoon, May 17, no interim city manager had been appointed for Corpus Christi.
