Corpus Christi city council will meet in special session at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 23 to discuss the ongoing boil water notice. Representatives of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are expected to attend to answer questions. Mayor Nelda Martinez said the meeting will continue as long as there are questions, but that they will recess at 2 p.m. to hold a daily press conference to update status of a chlorine treatment being pushed through the miles of water pipes that run under city streets.
An infusion of ammonia free chlorine, called free chlorine, is being pushed through the system, beginning at the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant  at the northwest end of Corpus Christi in Calallen. Officials say it will take about a week to work its way through the system all the way to Padre Island to the southeast. The more people use water, the faster it will move through the system.
Residents can keep track of where the chlorine has reached by checking an updated map online on the city’s website.
