The Texas State Aquarium is pleased to announce that the Dolphin Bay habitat and exhibit is back to normal.
Over the past few weeks, the torrential flooding in Corpus Christi has caused many problems for the city’s water system. The Texas State Aquarium was no exception to these plumbing issues: a large pipe supplying saltwater to the Dolphin Bay Habitat cracked on Sunday, May 22.
The broken pipe caused the exhibit to lose quite a bit of water, so the dolphins Shadow, Kai, Liko and Schooner were temporarily relocated to a separate enclosure.
The exhibit was closed and the dolphin show was put on hold until repairs were made. The aquarium even offered $3 off admission during this period.
Fortunately, the broken pipe was repaired within a week. Every pipe in the water system was inspected thoroughly to prevent future issues. The dolphins are back in the Dolphin Bay habitat, happy as ever.
Liko and Schooner made the move from Seaworld Orlando to the Texas State Aquarium in January. Since then, trainers have been working to establish a “bachelor pod” between the newcomers and the existing dolphins, Shadow and Kai. The first few months they were kept apart, but the four dolphins were brought together at the start of May.
