K Space Contemporary’s Mural Arts Camp has had a busy summer. With the help of about 60 young artists, the museum created its 16th mural, “La Playa by the Bay.”
Bringing even more life to an area bursting with color, the mural was painted on the side of the restaurant for which it’s named, La Playa by the Bay, a Tex-Mex eatery and cantina located off Water Street.
Painted in bold colors, including scarlet red, vibrant orange, and cobalt blue, the mural is an eye-catching addition to the Marina Arts District in downtown Corpus Christi.
The mural was designed by artists Sandra Gonzalez, the muralist for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times building, and Katherine Holmes. The two artists led the summer Mural Arts Camp along with Tony Armadillo and Youth Artist Apprentices Jocelyn Castillo and Taryn Veit. Youths ages 13-17 attended the camp.
The mural will be unveiled on Saturday, Aug. 11, with a mural dedication at 3 p.m. at La Playa by the Bay, 227 N. Water St.
