In what may be the beginning of the waterpark wars in Corpus Christi, Hurricane Alley Waterpark in the SEA District is completing a surf simulator ride due to open in May. Sometime after that, a competing water park, Schlitterbahn, plans to open its doors to a whole new park.
Until then, Hurricane Alley, which has been open for two years, will have the only Flowrider Surf Simulator in the area and you can help give it a name. Facebook fans of Hurricane Alley are being asked to find fun names that fit the park and the ride. You can find contest details on the website at www.HurricaneAlley.com and on the Hurricane Alley Facebook page. The winner will receive a four-pack of Season Passes and an invitation to the grand opening ribbon cutter. You'll also be the first to ride.
Hurricane Alley opens March 8 in time for Spring Break. The Flowrider Surf Simulator will open in May.
The surf simulator is similar to wake boarding, snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. To tame this ride, you'll need a sense of balance and a little practice, says General Manager Jim Kunau.
"The addition of a surf simulator to Hurricane Alley is a natural Fit," says Kunau.
So if you can't catch a wave on the beach, or just want a different experience, head for Hurricane Alley Waterpark. And if you don't surf, it's fun to watch those who can — or think they can!
