Fulton starts Spring Break week with a bang of fireworks and four days of festival fun. The annual Fulton Oysterfest begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 6, with live music, dancers and fireworks! The bombast hits the skyline at 8 p.m. at Fulton Navigation Park.
Friday's fun from 5 to 11 p.m. begins and ends with music, but is topped off at 7:45 p.m. with a Decorated Oyster Contest.
On Saturday, the Oysterfest Parade heads down Fulton Beach Road at 11 a.m., ending at the Oysterfest Grounds. The Men's Raw Oyster Eating Contest takes place on the outside stage at 3 p.m. Music continues until midnight.
Sunday, you may need some churchin'. The Cowboy Church with Fellowship Cowboy Church Band runs from 10:30 to noon. At 2 p.m. the Women's Raw Oyster Eating Contest takes place on the outside stage and at 3 p.m. the Oyster Shucking Contest gets under way.
The event closes with the Sons of Texas from 4 to 6 p.m.
Performers throughout the four days include Jason Allen, Darrell McCall, Gene and Darren Brown, Purple Sage, Texas Gypsies, James Edwards and Riptide, among others. For a full schedule check out the website at www.fultonoysterfest.org.
An arts and crafts tent will be open for family fun all four days along with shopping vendors, games and carnival rides.
Proceeds from the Oysterfest support the Fulton Volunteer First Department. Now that the new fire station is complete, money will help fund equipment, training and maintenance. The Oysterfest is the fire department's main source of funding, so come on down and participate in a lot of fun that goes to a good cause. And enjoy some of the best oysters — and music — around.
