The only limitation is your imagination when faced with the giant foam building blocks at the new addition to the Children's Wharf in the Corpus Christi Science and History Museum. The blocks came as part of a deal with Ka-Boom!, a non-profit that involves kids in designing their own play areas.

Ka-Boom! and the museum will be building an entire new playground on Saturday, September 27, that was designed just recently by the museum's youngest patrons. Also, the museum is holding its annual fundraiser, The Doc McGregor Gala, a 1929-themed dinner and dance the same day.

"We always have a lot of fun stuff happening at the museum," public relations manager Sarah Tindall told Corpus Christi Business News.

October will feature the Haunted Museum. Patrons can take a flashlight tour of the building, or enter the haunted maze for a real scare beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 and 10 p.m. Oct. 19.

"A museum is kind of a spooky place at night to begin with," Tindall said. "And we have lots of room to do some really creative things, with volunteers and staff in costume jumping out to scare you." The Haunted Museum offers a kid friendly version, along with a scarier tour for those ready for a chill.

Foam and fun

Everyone from toddlers to teenagers to grandparents have gotten in the groove of the Imagination Playground of big blue blocks, Tindall said. Blocks range from two to five feet and come in a variety of shapes, including noodles and arches.

"You can make everything from a club house to cars or vehicles that actually roll, using the noodles as wheels," Tindall said. "It's been really fun watching how original and different everyone is with the blocks."
