Celebrate art and song the third weekend in May in Port Aransas when the community holds its annual Art Fiesta weekend. The weekend-long event includes Artfest and the Songwriter's Showcase.
Sponsored by the Port Aransas Art Center and the Chamber of Commerce, festivities include music, shopping, eating and fun. More than 40 artists are expected to display their work from original paintings to hand-painted fish and signs to stained glass and more.
Artfest is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Birthday beginnings
The Songwriter's Showcase will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. The showcase first began when musician Jesse Bishop decided to hold a musical birthday celebration. He also decided to charge a fee and give the money to the nonprofit Port Aransas Art Cente.
When Bishop and his wife moved to Costa Rica, his drummer Preecher Williams became the new emcee. Admission is usually about $7.
Bring blankets, lawn chairs and coolers for a beach going birthday bash.
