Coastal Bend dog lovers have a new hot spot in town that will get tails a-waggin’. Pup-A-Palooza at 7602 S. Staples in Corpus Christi offers unique services and pet-care products.
First-time business owner and dog lover Connie Redfearn wanted to provide dog owners with products and services currently not available in Corpus Christi. As a proud owner of two Shelties, Karma and Bobbie, Redfearn had been to self-service dog washes in other cities and thought Corpus Christi needed one, too. This was a unique service she knew dog owners would appreciate.
“We like to say, ‘You supply the dog, and we’ll supply the rest,’” she told Corpus Christi Business News. “I really just wanted to have a fun place that people and families can bring their dogs and have a good time.”
Pup-A-Palooza provides specially designed, elevated washtubs that place your dog at a comfortable level to wash and groom without you having to bend or kneel down. Plus, they have dryer stations with blowers set at just the right temperature to avoid burned skin and scorched fur. Towels and organic shampoos, ear and eye wipes and grooming tools are all provided.
“A self-service dog wash is not to replace your regular groomer,” Redfearn explained. “But it sure comes in handy for those in-between baths or for out-of-town guests who come their pets.”
In the boutique section of the store, you’ll find racks of adorable, witty — and, yes, functional — clothing items. Several doggie couture lines of clothing are as well-made as any human clothing found in high-end department stores.
The boutique is filled with fun, clever items that dogs will enjoy, while their owners get a good laugh. For example, doggie beds such as the Sniffany & Co. pillow shaped like a big baby blue Tiffany & Co. box and Chewy Vuitton beds shaped like Louis Vuitton luggage from Dog Diggin’ Designs.
Redfearn also carries full lines of quality foods and pet-care items — even aroma-therapy products for dogs.
“I do a lot of research and see what is new in the industry before I will carry it in the store,” she said. “We have many organic food and skin products that my girls (her Shelties) love.”
Pooches can enjoy gourmet treats at Pup-A-Palooza’s Yappy Hour from 4-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. During Yappy Hour, treats are buy one, get one free. The store has partnered with several local animal organizations and held two doggie fashion shows.
“We know families love their dogs,” Redfearn said. “We want to give them new ways to show their love.”
