Engine Service and Supply Co. in Corpus Christi is much more than its name suggests, according to ESSCO branch manager Tom Goleman. Offering a full line of industrial and oilfield supplies, the store’s well-stocked showroom hosted about 200 of its local customers during a recent open house.
“We’ve got a pretty good display area, and we want everyone to see what we’ve got,” Goleman said.
Headquartered in Odessa, the company also repairs and services large engines used on the oil field. The Odessa site repairs Ingersoll-Rand air tools and starters and fabricates Quincy air compressors. ESSCO is an authorized Ingersoll-Rand air starter and air tool supplier and repair center.
The company began in 1945 overhauling drilling-rig engines. After a major downturn in the market, someone in the company made a list of supplies that oil businesses needed and stocked up.
“That list became the source of the 220-plus different items we carry now,” Goleman said.
Today, a slowdown doesn’t pose such a threat to the longtime oilfield business.
“We still stay busy, we still deliver,” Goleman said. “Our core customers are the gas-processing plants and pipeline companies.”
While those might slow down some with the recent drop in oil to below $50 a barrel, the plants still have product to collect and refine and still need maintenance supplies.
The open house, which was held in late February, served hamburgers to about 200 of the company’s local customers in the industry, who got a chance to see the full range of what ESSCO has to offer.
