Family-owned and -operated, Staples Street Meat Market celebrates its 10th anniversary as a Corpus Christi culinary institution this year. And what better way to commemorate this milestone than to open up a second location?
Staples Street Meat Market at 7626 S. Staples in the Kings Court shopping center will soon be joined by a sister shop in Meadowbrook Plaza. Co-owners Angel Bustos Jr. and Mike Meehan recently inked the deal for their new digs at 4703 S. Alameda St..
“We have been considering opening a second location for a while,” Meehan told Corpus Christi Business News. “The Alameda location is perfect to serve people on the other side of the freeway. While the growth of the city is on the south side, we know people in the inner part of the city still need to be served.”
The new Alameda location is scheduled to open this summer after a complete remodel of the interior. As a full-service grocery store, it will be about the same size as the original Staples Street location. Given that the second Staples Street Meat Market will be located on South Alameda Street, Meehan said this location will be named Alameda Meats, Staples Street No. 2.
The owners recently expanded their grocery selection at the original location, which also will be continued at the Alameda store.
“We strive to offer an easy one-stop shop where people can find everything they need to prepare their full meal and quickly get in and get on their way,” Meehan said. “Most importantly, we carry quality foods and all-natural cuts of meat. We do not add any preservatives to our products. We do not add gases to our meat to make it ‘look’ fresher. Our meat IS fresh!”
Meehan has been in the grocery business since 1982. He helped open the H-E-B on South Alameda Street and Robert Drive in 1984, so he is familiar with the residents and customer base on that side of town, he said.
Bustos has 25 years of restaurant experience and handles catering services at the store. He also helps customers with advice and recommendations for how to prepare their cuts of meat or seafood.
“Our second location will offer the same wide variety of high-quality goods that we have (at the Staples Street location) in a friendly neighborhood atmosphere,” Meehan added.
Staples Street Meat Market is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours are 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. The new store will have the same hours and the same quality of goods and services, assures both owners.
