In recent years the trend for custom cabinetry in residential and commercial settings has been on the rise. Custom cabinets are a worthwhile investment for resale value but also as an improvement in the quality of life, says the experts at Wright Custom Cabinets in Corpus Christi.
“Custom means tailored to an individual’s own personal needs and tastes,” said office manager Patty Butters. “We have a unique approach. When customers come to our showroom and ask, ‘What do have you have?’ We say, ‘What do you want?’ In other words, tell us what you want and we will build it exactly to your specifications.”
This style of personalized service developed from the early days of the business. Owner Travis Wright started doing custom cabinetry out of his home workshop nearly 10 years ago. Wright had worked with his father in the construction business his whole life.
“He has had a tool belt on since he was 11 years old,” quipped Butters.
While working with his father, Wright built a reputation for his skills and quality of work but more importantly for his integrity. The trust and confidence that builders have in his work has helped to bring repeat business.
“Every time we do one job,” Wright told Corpus Christi Business News, “it leads to the potential of 10 more jobs.”
Based out of Rockport, the company has experienced steady upward growth, especially after Wright moved from his home workshop to a bigger facility. After three years, the company outgrew that location as well. Now with a  showroom and full-scale workshop located at 1521 South Highway 35 Bypass, Wright continues to invest in the company to better meet the growing demand.
Wright recently acquired a CNC machine which, through computerization, has helped to streamline the production process. This was a substantial purchase for the company but a necessary one, Wright said.
“Travis has always given careful consideration before making large investments in the company,” Butters said of Wright. “However with the amount of business coming in, the CNC machine was necessary to boost production and keep up with demand.”
Wright Custom Cabinets gets the lion’s share of its business from builders throughout South Texas, but they maintain a steady residential client base. Homeowners are fun to work with Butters said because they do more of the fun unique designs.
The Wright team takes a hands on approach with customers.
“We offer an absolute full service,” Butters said. “From the time customers come through our doors, we walk them through every detail of the whole process — from design ideas and drafting to measurements down to custom finishes and door selection.”
Wright’s passion for custom woodworking coupled with his meticulous attention to detail, keeps the business coming in, continued Butters.
“It helps to have such a good group of skilled and trusted employees,” Wright added, explaining that he strives to maintain a cohesive, respectful working environment where employees know they are valued.
