The 101 Auto Guide, the first in a series of publications expected from Texas Publishing this year, launched with the December issue of Corpus Christi Business News.

Inserted in this month’s Corpus Christi Business News, readers will find the latest in a line of new publications from Texas Publishing: the 101 Auto Guide. Published under the 101 Fun Things to Do branding, the Auto Guide links the car-loving culture of Corpus Christi to the local people and places that service, maintain and sell vehicles.
“Corpus Christi car culture has always been strong and diversified,” Auto Guide editor Adam Barrera said. “Putting this guide together fits into my longtime career of creating connections between customers and the brands they love. That’s my strength and my passion.”
Barrera forged his love of automobiles growing up in Corpus Christi. As a reporter for the University of Houston’s student newspaper, he turned his obsession into a career covering the auto industry. After graduation, he moved to Detroit, despite the downturn in the economy, and went to work managing social media for the SRT brand at Chrysler Group.
Returning to Corpus Christi years later, Barrera found the perfect niche with Texas Publishing as it launched a new initiative to bring the phone book into the world of technology. The first of a series of guides planned throughout the year, the 101 Auto Guide is backed by a powerful, interactive website complete with customer home pages that adapt to any digital format, whether computer, tablet or smartphone.
Online shoppers can create a list of businesses and services they want to further explore and email that information to themselves or their family or friends or save it to their devices. In print, consumers will find features on dealers, mechanics, insurance providers, detailers and car accessory retailers.
“The Auto Guide has the immediacy that an annual publication like the phone book can’t have,” said Bob Jones, CFO for Texas Publishing. “The phone book is where you go when you’re ready to buy. A guide helps you understand what you may need to buy. One feeds the other.”
The total press run for each of the planned guides, including a Wedding Guide, a Golf Guide, a Dining Guide, a Lawn & Garden Guide and more, is 100,000 a year. Each publication will be printed in batches of 25,000 quarterly, allowing advertisers the opportunity to update their information on a regular basis.
The editorial content draws readers, connecting them with additional information and services on the website and providing a powerful advertising tool that encompasses multiple levels of marketing and branding, Jones said.
Distribution is planned via inserts in Corpus Christi Business News (12,000 a month) and in Corpus Christi Living (25,000 per month). Others will be distributed on racks at locations across the city (see list below). You can also read a digital version on this page in the right hand column. Just click and read.
