One sure-fire way to help your city would be to apply for one of the many vacancies on city boards, committees or commissions. Take a look to see if one of these openings interests you, then submit your biographical information to the City Secretary’s Office: 
Committee for Persons with Disabilities
4 vacancies with terms lasting until Feb. 1, 2018 
This committee provides a program to encourage, assist and enable persons with disabilities to participate in the social and economic life of the city; to achieve maximum personal independence; to become gainfully employed; and to enjoy fully and use all public and private facilities available within the community. 
Community Youth Development (78415) Program Steering Committee 
9 vacancies with terms lasting until August, 31, 2016 and August 31, 2017
Five of the nine members would represent the following categories residents of the 78415 Zip Code, while four would be at-large members. The committee advises the City Council on a periodic basis of the progress regarding the Community Youth Development Program. 
Corpus Christi Community Improvement Corporation/Loan Review Committee 
8 vacancies with terms lasting until May 7, 2017 and May 7, 2018
Three appointees would represent the community at-large, one each would represent a financial Institution, a real estate agency, an engineer,  an architect/engineer and the legal profession. The committee reviews and approves loan applications submitted through the various loan programs. 
Electrical Advisory Board 
3 vacancies with terms lasting until Dec. 31, 2017
Appointees would include one each from the following categories: a master electrician with at least five years active experience; a registered professional engineer with at least five years’ experience in the practice of electrical engineering (preference for appointment may be given to professional engineers licensed in the State of Texas); and commercial builder with five years’ experience. The board reviews grievances pertaining to contractors and the City Electrical Code. It also can recommend to the City Council changes regarding the City Electrical Code. 
Landmark Commission 
4 vacancies with terms lasting until Nov. 20, 2018
Applicants needed to fill one each of the following categories: historian; person knowledgeable in title search and/or property surveyor;  licensed real estate salesperson; and regular member. The Landmark Commission promotes the use of historical and cultural landmarks for the culture, prosperity, education, and general welfare of the people of the City and visitors to the City. 
Leadership Committee for Senior Services 
8 vacancies with terms expiring on Feb. 1, 2017 and Feb. 1, 2018
Members needed to represent the following categories: two to serve as direct service agency representatives, five as community representatives and one senior center participant. The committee assists the Senior Community Services (SCS) division staff in the development of comprehensive senior citizens program plans, advises the SCS division staff of the needs for services according to locally conceived priorities and other duties relating to the SCS operations. 
Mechanical/Plumbing Advisory Board
6 vacancies with terms expiring on Jan. 2, 2018
oard members needed representing the following categories: one master plumber with at least five years active experience — three of which must have been in Corpus Christi — and currently active in the plumbing trade (preference for appointment may be given to plumbers licensed in the State of Texas); one plumber with at least five years active experience — three of which must have been in Corpus Christi and currently active in the plumbing trade, (preference for appointment may be given to plumbers licensed in the State of Texas ); one mechanical engineer with at least five years of active experience, (preference for appointment may be given to professional engineers licensed in the State of Texas), two people with heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration contracting business with at least five years active experience (preference for appointment may be given to persons licensed in the State of Texas in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration contracting); and and one home building industry leader with at least five years’ experience. 
The board advises the City Manager regarding any matter in the mechanical, plumbing and irrigation fields that it considers should be brought to the attention of the City Council. The board also makes recommendations to the City Council regarding changes to the City Fuel Gas, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. 
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Advisory Committee 
1 vacancy with term ending June 16, 2016 
Position represents the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) as volunteer workstation representative (executive, director or similar leadership position at a non-profit agency that operates a RSVP Volunteer Station). The committee advises the City Council, City Manager and Parks Department Staff regarding the RSVP including but not limited to recruitment strategies; providing support in recruitment of volunteers and volunteer stations; serves as community advocates and liaisons; assists in development of non-federal resources to include fundraising and other duties related to the RSVP.
Tree Advisory Committee 
3 vacancies with terms ending Feb. 8, 2018
Members to represent the one at-large; one landscape architect and one arborist or urban forester. The committee reviews and recommends a formal written plan to the City Council for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of public trees.
