Garcia Elementary School hosts this year’s Block Kids Building Program competition in Corpus Christi, Saturday, Jan. 30. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. The contest is from 9 to 10 a.m. at the school, which is located at 1945 Gollihar. The Corpus Christi Fire Department will have a fire truck at the school from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for the kids during judging. Winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m.
Block Kids is a national building competition sponsored on local chapters of the National Association of Women in Construction. The program aims to create an awareness of and promote an interest in future careers in one of the many facets of the construction industry.
During the competition, participants will be asked to build various structures using interlocking blocks and three of the following additional items: A small rock, string, foil and poster board.
Local winners advance to Regional Competition and one semi-finalist from each region is entered in the National Program competitions. National prizes are awarded to the top three projects. National winners will be announced March 15.
The competition is open to all kids in grades one through six in Garcia Elementary and Holy Family Catholic School.
