A popular city sponsored rain-barrel sale is back for a second round this year. The almost $100 rain barrels can be purchased for $47 (tax included!) between now and April 29. A limited number are offered for pre-sale, so it pays to order soon.
Each of the black plastic barrels holds 55 gallons and collects rooftop runoff from a home’s rain gutter system for watering lawns or washing cars. Rain barrels save home owners money and conserve water, said city officials.
Product details and ordering information can be found by visiting UpCycle-Products.com. Order forms are located on the right hand side of the website. Make sure to select the form for Corpus Christi.
Citizens can also call (815) 735-9583. Rain barrels can only be purchased with a debit or credit card. There is a limit of two barrels per household.
The pre-ordered rain barrels MUST be picked up Saturday, May 7, at the Utilities Department located at 2726 Holly Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Let’s Talk Corpus Christi

Public discussion of city issues with City Manager Ron Olson and his executive team continue with another open question and answer session. “Let’s Talk Corpus Christi” will take place on Wednesday, March 30, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Garden Senior Center, 5325 Greely Drive.
Olson began holding public meetings last year as a way for citizens to discuss issues one-on-one with officials. Residents are invited to come get information, and share ideas about city operations. The talks are a way to increase two-way communication between citizens with city management, Olson said.
Other officials joining the city manager include, Deputy City Manager Margie C. Rose, Assistant City Manager Mark Van Vleck, Interim Assistant City Manager Jay Ellington, Chief of Police Mike Markle and Fire Chief Robert Rocha.
