A major Mexican touring company will soon be bringing visitors by the busload to Corpus Christi beginning in July, announced Teresa Rodriguez Bartlett of the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Representatives of Transpais, a Northern Mexico bus tour group, along with one of its buses, recently visited Corpus Christi to solidify the deal. Visitors will come from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Reynosa and Tamaulipas.
As the chief public affairs and business development officer for the CVB, Rodriguez Bartlett recently visited Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley to invite our southern neighbors to come on up — specifically for Fiesta de la Flor. That message and invitation goes beyond the Selena celebration slated for May 6-7, however.
“You have to go and invite someone to come to your house, and that’s what we are doing,” Rodriguez Bartlett told Corpus Christi Business News. “We are asking them to come and visit.”
The message includes information about all the local amenities, including attractions, shopping and outdoor activities that would entice families to spend the weekend or longer.
“Right now, a lot of people from Northern Mexico are going to the Valley or to San Antonio, where they shop and go back in a day,” Rodriguez Bartlett said. “We are only two and a half hours from the Valley, and we have parks, the beaches, the Lexington, the aquarium and wonderful stores for shopping.”
The more they see, the more they will come. And when they go home, they will tell their family and friends. The beautiful views of the bays, the beaches and the many places to eat and shop, will quickly grow the city’s tourist base, she said.
“One day will not be enough to enjoy all the different attractions we have,” she continued. “I see a lot more people coming to visit us and spend more time. We are very affordable, and at the same time, we have the beautiful beaches everyone is looking for. I see a real increase in visitors this summertime.”
