The west side parking lot in front of the terminal at Corpus Christi International Airport has reopened with all new covers to shield travelers' vehicles from the scorching coastal sun. The lot was closed for six weeks for maintenance and installation of the new canopies.
Pole covers were replaced and rust removed. Everything was power washed and painted. And while all that was going on, crews also restriped the parking lot. Total cost was $178,000.
The new covers shield 233 spaces and should last 10 to 12 years, say airport officials. Another 98 spaces on the east side should open soon, depending on weather.
Airport parking is open 24 hours a day and accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover credit cards as well as Visa and MasterCard debit cards. Cash and checks are also accepted.
