THURSDAY, JUNE 30
Kick off the festivities in true American fashion Thursday, June 30, when the Corpus Christi Hooks take the field against the Springfield Cardinals. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. with the first 2,000 fans receiving a free Hooks camo cap. The AA Hooks play at Whataburger Field, 734 E. Port Ave., every night of the July 4 weekend, and there will be postgame fireworks.
Elsewhere in the city, live music both indoors and out tunes up the beginning of a great three-day weekend:
• 6 p.m. — Harrison’s Landing provides music on the water at People’s Street T-Head, Corpus Christi Marina.
• 8 p.m. — Somethin’ Silky plays the free Bay Jammin’ Concert Series at Cole Park on South Shoreline Boulevard
• 8 p.m. — Live music at the Executive Surf Club, 309 N. Water St., by Shayna Sands and Killer John Miller.
• 8 p.m. — Jon Wolfe plays Brewster Street Ice House just outside Whataburger Field at 1724 N. Tancahua St.
FRIDAY, JULY 1
From fine art to outdoor markets and food trucks, First Fridays in Corpus Christi are all about downtown.
• 10 a.m. — Doors open to First Free Fridays at the Art Museum of South Texas, 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd.
• 11 a.m. — Hurricane Alley Waterpark opens with $13 admission before noon and after 4 p.m. Stay late for a free screening of “Insurgent” at the Dive-In Movie when the wave pools slows down for the coolest movie watching in town.
• 5:30 p.m. — ArtWalk begins at the Marina Arts District in downtown Corpus Christi. Artisans, vendors, live music and blocks of galleries open late.
• 7:05 p.m. — Free fireworks over Whataburger Field at the end of the second Hooks game against the Springfield Cardinals.
• 8 p.m. — Music by the Spazmatics at Brewster Street Ice House; Hamilton Loomis at Executive Surf Club; and a Tribute to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn at House of Rock, 511 Starr St.
• 9 p.m. — Free movie on the bay at the Bay Jammin’ Cinema Series in Cole Park with the screening of “Hotel Transylvania.”
SATURDAY, JULY 2
Getting closer to the big day, this could be the time to take in any of the city’s 13 beaches for some surf and sun before choosing at which live music venue to dance and dine away the evening. You might also pick tonight for some baseball as the Hooks continue their holiday home stand.
• 10 a.m. — $1 admission all day at the Art Museum of South Texas.
• 2 p.m. — Live music by Rich Lockhart Acoustic at the Executive Surf Club.
• 6 p.m. — Live music at Harrison’s Landing, People’s Street T-Head.
• 7:05 p.m. — More postgame fireworks and the first 2,000 fans get a Hooks patriotic cap for Game 3 in the Springfield Cardinals series.
• 8 p.m. — Scarecrow People take the stage at Executive Surf Club, while Brewster Street Ice House hosts Bill Creager’s third annual Birthday Bash with Roger Creager, Kevin Fowler and Max Stalling.
SUNDAY, JULY 3
Where else can you see fireworks three days in a row BEFORE the Big Bang on the Fourth of July? In Corpus Christi, of course.
• 8:30 a.m. Stay in shape for the rest of the weekend with apatriotic trek over the Harbor Bridge. The monthly BridgeWalk begins in Heritage Park for two different 3-mile walks, either over the bridge or along the seawall. Meet back at the beginning for free family fun activities. Wear your red, white and blue to win awards.
• 10 a.m. — $1 admission all day at the Art Museum of South Texas.
• 2 p.m. — Live music by Rudy Llanes Acoustic at the Executive Surf Club.
• 6 p.m. — Live music at Harrison’s Landing, People’s Street T-Head.
• 7:05 p.m. — More postgame fireworks as the Hooks take on the Tulsa Drillers.
• 8 p.m. — Bob Schneider at Brewster Street Ice House.
MONDAY, JULY 4
Here at last! If you’re not already worn out, today’s the big day for patriotic ceremonies, parades, free live music, a bridge light show and the biggest of the Mayor’s Big Bang Fourth of July Fireworks Display.
• 7 a.m. — Put on your running shoes and meet at the Ortiz Center to join the Corpus Christi Roadrunners for their annual Four for the 4th Run.
• 10 a.m. — Independent Day Patriotic Ceremony at Sherrill Park, 402 Harbor Drive, hosted by the Corpus Christi’s Mayor’s Committee on Veteran’s Affairs.
• 11:30 a.m. — Mayor’s Big Bang Parade follows Shoreline Boulevard south from the S.E.A. District to just past Sherrill Park at the Great Lawn. You’ll find the Mayor’s Big Bang Kids Zone featuring music by Chicas Rock and the Mayor’s Big Bang Food Truck Court between Sherrill Park and the Great Lawn.
• 2 p.m. — Head to Heritage Park for the KROB 1520 AM/94.3 FM Radio Fourth of July celebration complete with food, vendors and live music.
2 p.m. — Fajitaville gets ready for fireworks viewing with live DJs.
5 p.m. — The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History hosts science experiments, kids activities and shows as well as a fireworks viewing party. Located at 1900 N. Chaparrell, seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Meet historic figures, enjoy free face painting along with puppet shows and a bounce house obstacle course. Cost is $15 for members, $20 for non-members.
• 7 p.m. — Mayor’s Big Bang live concert by JonMikael Mrez at Cole Park Amphitheater.
• 7:05 p.m. — More postgame fireworks for the second Hooks game against the Tulsa Drillers.
• 9 p.m. — Harbor Bridge Light Show choreographed by music broadcast on 92.7 FM, 95.5 FM and 1440 AM.
9:30 p.m. — The Mayor’s Big Bang Fireworks Display from Corpus Christi Bay. Best viewing: anywhere along the bayfront!
