Two new ride-share companies now operating in Corpus Christi need drivers and have launched separate online application sites to help facilitate the process. Both Tride Rideshare and GetMe have agreed to comply with a new city ordinance requiring fingerprint background checks for drivers. Two bigger companies, Uber and Lyft, left the city in April after refusing to meet those same requirements.
Tride rolled out its first Corpus Christi drivers over for a Weezer concert June 11 and now operats as the exclusive rideshare partner with Concrete Street Amphitheater, Rockit’s Whisky Bar & Saloon and The Beach 96.5. The company is offering driver incentives and bonuses for those who can qualify and get to work for the busy Fourth of July weekend.
Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tride now operates in Corpus Christi and Austin. Both Tride and GetMe helped fill the gap in Austin when Uber and Lyft left that city over the same fingerprint background check issue. Voters in Austin turned down a proposition in a May election that would have allowed ridesharing without the fingerprinting.
GetMe has headquarters in Dallas and also operates in Houston, Las Vegas, San Antonio and Galveston. Both San Antonio and Galveston lost Uber business with fingerprint requirements. San Antonio remanded the requirement, gaining Uber back.
GetMe plans to be on the road in Corpus Christi this week or next and is taking applications for drivers in preparation.
