Two local organizations — Radiology Associates and the non-profit First Friday — have joined together to provide free mammograms to area women without insurance or other means to obtain breast cancer prevention services.
Radiology Associates has teamed up with First Friday to provide free mammograms to eligible women in the Coastal Bend. While Radiology Associates administers the test, First Friday will handle eligibility requirements.
“This partnership is a win-win,” said Dr. Michael Michell, Chairman of the Breast Imaging Team at Radiology Associates in a press release. “Every person who needs a mammogram should get one regardless of her financial situation. Through this new partnership, we are going to help create a healthier Coastal Bend.”
A Corpus Christi based company, Radiology Associates is now the exclusive provider of First Friday’s free screenings. First Friday is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, early detection education and community outreach. It is called First Friday as a reminder for women to do breast self-examinations on the first Friday of the month.
“We are excited to support First Friday’s mission to fight breast cancer through early detection and regular mammograms,” Michell said. “Their stellar reputation and proven track record to help uninsured women take charge of their health is something we want to get behind fully.”
Since 1994, First Friday has made it a mission to knock out breast cancer through education, self breast examinations and free screening mammograms for women with limited financial resources. Since that time, the organization has given way more than 16,000 free mammograms in the Coastal Bend.
Women interested in the program should call First Friday at (361) 985-5600 for more information. First Friday will coordinate scheduling with Radiology Associates at any of the company’s five area locations: three in Corpus Christi (including Calallen), one each in Portland and Alice.
Radiology Associates has been in business for more than 67 years, providing a full range of outpatient imaging services.
