One of the oldest and tallest buildings in the Six Points area of Corpus Christi just got a makeover. The building formerly known as Corpus Christi Medical Tower is now Staples Tower, bringing with the new name completely updated facilities and a push to include more than medical tenants.
Building managers Ashley and Mark Ginithan brought in their own non-medical tenant when they opened Staples Cafe on the bottom floor. Currently, the biggest medical occupant is Cardiology Associates, which takes up two floors.
“Our goal is to fill this building with tenants of every kind and have it prosper,” Ginithan said. “We want this to be a popular building.”
Ginithan manages Staples Tower for her father, former Miami Dolphins defensive back Lyle Blackwood, who signed autographs at a ribbon cutting and grand re-opening in October. She was living in Dallas when her dad talked her into helping him manage several of his buildings across the state.
Her devotion to this building, the area and the city grew as she traveled here over the past several years, eventually inspiring her and her family to move here for good in January.
“Corpus Christi is doing a good job of getting into the grimy areas of the city and cleaning them up,” she said. “That’s one of the reasons I wanted to move here. I want to be a part of that.”
Improving Staples Tower is her family’s contribution to the Six Points area, which Ginithan said has not “been the greatest area.” Recently, however, new buildings and businesses are going in where dilapidated structures used to be.
“We want to be a part of that,” she said. “And we want to make this building a monument in Corpus Christi.”
With that in mind, the couple installed a new heating and cooling system and renovated the elevators, lobby, bathrooms, plumbing and signage.
“We reformed this building,” she said. “We put our lives in this building.”
As part of the package, her husband started Staples Janitorial Service, providing maintenance and cleanup for clients in the building as well as other facilities in Corpus Christi. The company specializes in commercial janitorial services.
“We understand what it takes to maintain and keep a building of this size,” she said. “If you need that kind of service for your business, call us.”
Staples Tower is located at 1521 S. Staples St. in Corpus Christi. Contact (361) 944-8808 or staplestower@gmail.com for more information.
