Never mind. After winning his battle over eligibility with the Corpus Christi City Council, former council member Mark Scott dropped out of the mayor’s race the morning of Thursday, March 30. He won a decision by three judges from the 13th Court of Appeal that put him back in the running but dropped out the next day citing the “political circus” surrounding the special election set for May 6.
He told TV reporters he believes the city will file an appeal on the court’s decision in the next 20 days, which is the time period given. He also told reporters he intends to run for mayor of Corpus Christi in 2018, the next regular election for both city council and mayor.
A second drawing for placement on the ballot is expected to be cancelled, leaving the order of names at:
• Jonathan Garison, assistant principal, Tom Brown Middle School
• Reynaldo “Ray” Madrigal, former at-large council member and retired photographer
• Nelda Martinez, former mayor and owner Adlen Enterprises, an asset management company
• Joe McComb, current at-large city council member and owner of McComb Relocation Services
• Margarita Fratila, owner of European Floral Designs
• James Hernandez, owner of Landmark Electric Co.
