“You can’t do anything without good people,” he said. “I don’t care who you are.”
Keys has five technicians who work around the clock. The professional locksmiths are licensed by the Texas Department of Public Safety — necessary because customers have to trust them to make keys to their cars and homes.
“All my employees are clean, pleasant and easy to talk to,” Keys said. “They’re working with the public, and usually, people are mad because they locked themselves out, so they have to diffuse the situation.”
Two years ago, Keys turned over the business to his daughter, Roberta Kurtz, formerly a teacher at a local private school.
“Running a business is a lot like running a classroom,” said Kurtz, who makes sure all his employees are well-managed, accounted for and on task.
