Another downtown eyesore will soon become part of the area’s rebirth as a vibrant urban center — walkable, colorful and entertaining. An old Peerless Cleaners, which was once a gas station dating from the early 1900s, will be transformed into a plush outdoor bar.
Chief architect of what will be The Gold Fish, Robert Cooper saw potential in the abandoned building at the corner of Taylor and Mesquite streets. He will develop the concept of the bar around the architecture of the building, envisioning the end result as a home patio.
Business partners with Cooper are Jessica Gignac and Justin Gainan. The Gold Fish will be within walking distance of new residential units currently being built on the Uptown bluff.
The building will be ready by August, but an opening date awaits approval of state permits. `
