The Texas State Aquarium has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities and nonprofits. This is the fourth time in four years the aquarium has received the organization’s highest ranking.
Scores are based on financials, accountability and transparency. After receiving 90.6 out of a possible 100 score, the aquarium has become one of the most highly rated aquariums on Charity Navigator.
“We are honored to be once again awarded the four-star rating from Charity Navigator,” said CEO Tom Schmid in a news release. “As one of the nation’s top not-for-profit aquariums, we’ve always focused on directing the majority of our expenses to support our mission of education and conservation while being accountable to our board members, our donors, our employees, and the public.”
The report also noted the aquarium uses 79.1 percent of its expenses on programs, including exhibits and environmental education.
